Aion 2 Gathering Guide: Essence Extraction and Crafting

Aion 2 Gathering Guide: Essence Extraction and Crafting

Gathering in Aion 2 gives you a direct way to collect materials for crafting, while also helping you build your Extraction progression over time. If you want to support your crafting plans or earn additional Aion 2 Kinah from materials you do not need, the important part is learning how Essence Extraction works, which resources to collect, and when to turn those materials into crafted products.

Unlocking Essence Extraction

Essence Extraction is Aion 2’s gathering system. The current official guide lists it as available from character level 45. Once unlocked, you can interact with gathering nodes found throughout the world and attempt to extract their materials.

The system has its own progression rather than simply following your character level. Repeated extraction increases your Extraction level and provides skill points that can be spent on gathering abilities. These abilities remain active after being learned, so improving Extraction gradually makes future gathering more efficient.

Before starting regular gathering, make sure you have:

  • Essence Extraction unlocked
  • Enough inventory space for materials
  • A clear idea of which crafting materials you need
  • The appropriate crafting profession for your intended products
  • Wings available when you plan to collect aerial resources such as Odyle

How Essence Extraction Works

Gathering a node is an active extraction process rather than an instant pickup. After interacting with a resource, the game displays a Success Gauge and a Failure Gauge. The extraction succeeds when the Success Gauge reaches 100% first. If the Failure Gauge reaches 100% first, the attempt fails.

Each node also has its own durability, which represents the remaining extraction attempts. That durability decreases after every attempt regardless of whether the attempt succeeds. Once the durability is exhausted, the node disappears.

Basic extraction sequence

  1. Find an available gathering node.
  2. Interact with it to begin Essence Extraction.
  3. Watch the Success and Failure Gauges.
  4. Complete the extraction attempt.
  5. Collect the material if the Success Gauge reaches 100% first.
  6. Move to another node after the resource is depleted.

The official guide states that higher Extraction skill improves gathering speed and success rate. You therefore gain a practical benefit from continuing to gather even after you have collected enough materials for one particular recipe.

Pick Materials Around Your Crafting Goal

Aion 2 uses one shared gathering system for multiple material categories. Current gathering references list resources including ore, gemstones, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients, and Odyle. These materials feed into different crafting professions rather than requiring a separate basic gathering system for every category.

Your best gathering target depends on what you intend to craft.

Material typeMain crafting connection
OreBlacksmithing and Armorsmithing
GemstonesHandicrafting
LogsHandicrafting and related material requirements
HerbsAlchemy
Cooking ingredientsCooking
OdyleMultiple crafting recipes and Substance Morph

Do not automatically collect every node you pass. If you already know which profession you want to develop, prioritize the materials used by its recipes and gather other resources when they are convenient rather than making unnecessary detours.

How to Gather Odyle

Odyle requires a different approach because its nodes are found in the air. You need Wings to reach these floating gathering points, so Odyle farming works best when combined with normal aerial travel.

Current resource references list substantial numbers of Odyle locations in areas including Verteron, Altgard, and Chaotic Lower Reshanta. The nodes can also appear in several dungeon and expedition areas.

When farming Odyle, use this simple routine:

  1. Enter an area where Odyle nodes are available.
  2. Activate your Wings and look above nearby landmarks and points of interest.
  3. Approach the floating node.
  4. Start Essence Extraction while you are positioned close enough to gather.
  5. Complete the extraction attempt.
  6. Continue to the next aerial node.

Odyle is also used in Substance Morph and a wide range of crafting activities, which makes it useful to keep even when you do not immediately need it for one specific recipe.

Spend Extraction Skill Points With a Purpose

Extraction skills contain both general gathering improvements and specialized options for particular material types. The official guide specifically describes common gathering skills as helping with extraction success and professional extraction skills as supporting specific types of gathering. Skill points can also be reset, allowing you to change your allocation later.

For a focused gathering character, a sensible approach is to improve general extraction performance first, then put specialization points toward the materials that support your main crafting plans.

Priority by playstyle:

  • Equipment crafter: focus on the material family required by your chosen equipment profession.
  • Consumable crafter: prioritize herbs or cooking ingredients according to your profession.
  • Odyle farmer: invest in Odyle-related specialization and combine gathering with normal flying routes.
  • General gatherer: improve broad Extraction performance before specializing heavily.

Avoid treating a particular skill allocation as permanent. Your useful specialization can change when you change professions or start producing different items.

Move From Gathering Into Crafting

Gathered resources are the inputs for Aion 2’s production professions. Current references identify five main crafting professions: Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy, and Cooking. A single character can work with these professions, so you do not need to create a separate character simply to access every basic crafting category.

The practical crafting loop is simple:

Gather materials → check the recipe → meet the profession requirement → craft the item → store, use, or trade the result

Before spending a large amount of materials, check the complete recipe chain. Higher-level crafting can require processed materials and earlier crafted components, so a finished item may consume considerably more resources than its final recipe screen initially suggests.

This is also where material management becomes important. Keep resources that are required by your next crafting targets, while excess materials can be considered for trading or other material-management options.

Use Substance Morph for Material Flexibility

Substance Morph provides another way to use gathered resources when your inventory does not match your immediate crafting requirements. Odyle is particularly connected with this system, giving it value beyond direct crafting recipes.

Treat conversion as a secondary option rather than automatically converting every surplus material. Check the materials required for your next craft first. A resource that looks unnecessary today may become useful once you advance another crafting recipe.

Also keep Odyle separate from Odyle Energy when organizing your resources. They are different resources used by different systems, so they should not be treated as interchangeable materials.

Reach Professional Extraction at Novice 50

Extraction progression continues beyond the initial Novice stage. The official guide states that reaching Novice Extraction level 50 allows you to advance through a promotion quest and become Professional.

At this point, continue gathering rather than stopping once the promotion becomes available. Professional progression gives you another reason to keep improving Extraction while your crafting professions advance alongside it.

A good long-term routine is:

  • Gather materials while traveling through suitable areas.
  • Save resources needed for your next recipes.
  • Spend Extraction skill points according to your current material focus.
  • Promote from Novice when you reach the required Extraction level.
  • Craft useful products from accumulated materials.
  • Trade genuinely surplus resources when they are not needed for upcoming recipes.

Build a Sustainable Gathering Loop

The most efficient approach is to connect gathering with the crafting goal you already have instead of farming random nodes. Decide what you want to make, identify its material requirements, and collect those resources during normal exploration. This keeps your Extraction progression moving without turning every gathering session into a separate grind.

If you are gathering materials primarily to support Aion 2 Items production, keep enough resources for the next recipe before considering any surplus for trading. If you are gathering mainly for the economy, compare the usefulness of the raw material against its current crafting demand before selling it, since market conditions can change.

From there, repeat the same cycle: gather the materials your profession consumes, return to the appropriate crafting interface, produce what your character needs, and retain useful leftovers for the next recipe. This gives you a practical progression loop that develops Extraction and crafting together while keeping your material inventory under control.
